Venous ulcers are the most common form of leg ulcers, and their incidence remains unchanged over the last 20 years. Over 50% of ankle ulcers are caused by varicose veins. Skin changes with ulceration increase with age and depend significantly on involvement of the deep system and/or perforator veins. In patients with venous ulcers, 80% have superficial venous incompetence.
